- The primary intended purpose of a Schrader valve extender is to extend the length of the valve. In certain circumstances, this extender Improves access to valve by extending overall length to assist (or hinder, see notes) inflation. Extenders used in this application are used temporarily (fitted only for purpose of undertaking inflation) or permanently where they always reside fitted. The later requires specific circumstances to ensure the length is not too long so as to not clear swing arms etc.
Notes
- In order to depress the Schrader valve insert to open flow, the length of the shaft in the centre of the inflator, exender and valve are crucial for normal operation of the valve. Due to variances in tolerance of all three components, the end-to-end length may result in the pump being unable to depress the valve sufficiently to open flow.
- The straight extenders are often used as a tool to assist pull a valve through a rim to aid fitting of valves into wheels when undertaking tyre service.
