HOTA is the OEM tube that is adopted by VSETT in production of the 9/9+ models. It was paired with HOTA tyre until late 2021 when the factory switched to the more resilient Tuovt 8.5x3 tyre.
Suits 8.5" tyre (on 5.5" rims) where valve extends at 90 degrees with true right angle tilt. The bend is approximately 21mm from the tube. Typically fitted to Zero 8 (front as rear is 200x60 solid) and Zero 9 series running either 8.5x2 or 8.5x3 tyres. Also suitable for VSETT 8 (front as rear is 200x60 solid) and VSETT 9 series (9/9+). Will not suit Zero 8X (200x90 solid) and VSETT 8+ (200x60 solid rear and now front). Also used in the iScoot Bexley 8 & 9 and Machine Vixen Light. Check the length of your valve stem, often the CST 8.5x2.00-5.5 tube is used as the valve stem protrudes out slightly further.
142-28 designation (142mm or 5.59") which is perfect for fitting on 5.5" split rim with the Tuovt 8.5x3 which has inner diameter of 5.3 inches (134mm).
These tubes, along with this 8.5x2" tube are designated as compatible with Tuovt 8.5x3 Tyres and the similar HOTA equivalent.
Product images show tyre at 4PSI inflation on the bench, and appears visually "fatter" than 8.5x2" tubes tubes used in 8.5x2 tyres such as the Xiaomi M365 (which has a 6.1" rim, 156 tube = 6.14").
It is often mentioned the CST brand tube is a more resilient brand. It has a distinct shape bend in the valve which often reduces stress and at 90 grams is 16% heavier than the HOTA. It does not present as "fat" as the HOTA tube, implying there is more expansion required. The ULIP at 150 grams is understood to be the heaviest and has bend near that of the CST which is also reinforced.
Typical weight 77g.
HOTA branded. 142-28-01 nameplate. SSB:L-37B.
Brass coloured stem.
Notes:
Always check your bend: 90, 60 and 0 degree. This is a 90 degree bend tube. Non-Motor hubs will often not adopt 90 degree valves due to clearance.
The 8.5x3 tyres on 5.5" rims are relatively small, and with large/heavier motors the valve shape is often critical for proper fitting. eScootNow stocks alternative 90 degree bend options:
The 8.5x2" tube, which has similar length to this tube but adopts a 60 degree tilt rather than right angle tilt.
The CST 8.5x2.00-5.5 which has valve that protrudes out slightly further as the bend is slightly closer to the tube.
The ULIP 8.5x2, which is a heavy tube, proven well with puncture resistance on Zero and VSETT models with the ULIP 8.5x3 tyre.
