Product Details
Brand: eScootNow G Series by Gspace
  • Qualifies for E-Mobility Rebate Scheme for Queensland Residents. Registration for the scheme commences Monday 23rd Sept 2024 for Qld residents. Orders need be placed (with payment) from Monday to generate qualifying invoice date.
  • Australia's most capable Electric Scooter under 25kgs
  • Market leader in performance amongst the sub 30kg weight class in the sub $2,000 price point.

Designed by Gspace this petite scooter has an impressive long deck length and swing arm suspension for stability, making it an modest choice that provides safe handling and ride comfort that is typically only available in heavier scooters. A great commuting scooter, Commander packs a lot of features that are typically not included in scooters of this weight class. Check out the detailed 6 minute overview on YouTube...

Commander uses precipitation-hardened lightweight "space" aluminium alloy (6061-T6), containing magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. T6 temper is treated to provide the maximum precipitation hardening (and therefore maximum yield strength) for a 6061 aluminium alloy. Structural components use 45# steel which is among the most highly sought and popular types of structural carbon steel. Commander supports rider weights to 120kgs, with default natural rubber suspension of Shore A 82 (soft) which is not intended to take heavy downforce - for such purposes consider a steel spring with coil+oil dampening suspension design such as G22 ProMax 10 Run! (Vlaken G2 Master ODM) or higher Shore A rating Rear Mainbody.

The generous swing arm suspension uses natural rubber 82 Shore A suspension cartridges, offering long service life and excellent dampening to minimise rebound. Natural rubber is more stable than PU (Polyurethane) cartridges and provides a heavier suspension dampening than PU and spring-only configurations.

Commander is available in multiple configurations including 52 volt variants powered by 20 amp/hour South Korean LG Corepower lithium-ion 21700 cells which provide higher energy density for the weight than traditional Chinese Chemistry. Lower cost Chinese DMEGC18650 cells are also available. The LG powered models offer the best endurance-for-weight on the market, achieving up to an impressive 70kms range. Choose from four peak power offerings to suit your desired hill climbing capability. All variants use silky smooth and quiet sinewave controllers. The punchy torque in the Dual Pro offers impressive climbing velocity and response for such a petite scooter, with impressive natural rubber suspension.

No other sub 25kgs electric scooter ticks the boxes:

  • Available in high torque 52 volt, heavy dual 800w motor variant for lower temperature motor operation to reduced punctures typically associated with elevated motor temperature, which can be common with 8.5"/9" tyres due to relatively small hub size.
  • Pneumatic tyres for comfortable ride handling with split rims (easier for DIY puncture repair than solid hub rims).
  • Offered with high quality LG chemistry which typically has less voltage drop and battery degradation over years of service life compared to Chinese cells.
  • Generously long 59cm usable deck length (excluding rear tail light bracket) which supports excellent feet placement for rider to shift weight.
  • Front and rear disk brakes. Some models were offered previously with Zoom "full" hydraulic disc (those models no longer in stock).
  • Modern hinge design is easy to fold with minimal backlash (stem wobble) that locks when folded to allow for easy carrying.
  • Configured by design to not exceed 25km/hr when ordered with designed for 25km/hr maximum speed limiting option. This is via limiting wire ("grey wire" actually black) or alternatively if desired could be implemented as P9 P-setting to approx 45-55% (speed limit percentage of top speed - refer uncontrolled copy original user manual or user manual courtesy Manuals Plus). Limiters also applies the % governing on current (1300 watts on 8.5" Dual Pro systems which accommodate the 25% slope hill climb at 17km/hr rather than 37km/hr without limiter). The Turbo/Eco mode switch is also available which applies a current limiter to approximately 50% power and top speed to max 22kms, which is around 1144 watts when P9 is 100% in mode 3). The governing design / implementation on AR Central LCD equipped TFT models with finger throttle is unknown until they land.
  • IPX6 Waterproofing (although best to stay clear of water environments).

Inaugurally launched in USA through Scooter Kings and subsequently other regions such as Poland.

eScootNow G Series - Detailed specifications

Compare the G15 Commander across the G Series range, including braking capability, suspension, tyre/wheel offerings, weight and range expectations.

Product positioning: Comparative market guide.

Visit the G Series eScooter Range Home Page for an overview of the makes/models in the line-up and specification comparison tables.

Other features include:

  • Inspired by the original cartridge suspension similar to MiniMotors Dualtron Mini / Eagle like visual design presentation, with a less overwhelming weight making it very easy to "manage" in populated areas such as CBD footpaths etc.
  • Impressive long usable deck length, in contrast 43% longer than Xiaomi M365, 40% longer than Ninebot Max and 37% longer than G18 Sleigher Pro / original generation Bolzzen Commando / Dragon Slayer. These measurements exclude the additional 10cm for the rear bracket, as bracket would unlikely support significant downforce of rider weight.
  • Generous 60cm handlebar width on 8.5" series offering excellent stability (vs 48cm on Ninebot Max). The 9 series as a wider, higher swallow style bar.
  • Well suited to taller riders, with a deck to handlebar height of 1 meter.
  • Self contained battery fire extinguisher / suppressor module on selected models - inaugurally introduced on 8.5 Dual Pro Cable Brake variant. See this video demonstrating an extinguish of thermal runaway from the suppressor module inside the deck. The module comprises of a canister and blue hose as shown below that disrupts the thermal runway process.

  • Pre-fitted with smartphone based immobiliser enabled by IoT GPS Tracker by eScootNow. Includes controller specific harness to immobilise the scooter and shows location, route, notifications on tamper (alarm), and power-on state.
  • Front / Rear turn signals (amber) and standard 6D lens headlight. Optional eScootNow Stonker Headlight.
  • RGB strip lights within deck and stem, includes lighting remote control to customise amongst 300 different sequences/colours.

eScootNow advice on sub 10" tyres and associated tyre pressures with tubed tyres.

It is important to maintain appropriate tyre pressures on smaller wheeled eScooters that use tubes.

Here is your 8.5" tyre vs the 9.0" tyre. Both 8.5 and 9 series require tube (they are split rims). The 9" tyre has a lower profile (to accommodate the larger 6" hub). Ideally the higher profile is more resilient (to punctures, protection of the rim etc) although the lower profile can be suited well for tubeless hubs given the merits of tubeless and resiliance it provides.
Tubeless hubs (solid) do require more "effort" to change than split rims, particularly in these smaller sized hubs, but there are very few scooters on the market that offer affordable tubeless options (Dragon Cyclone Pro being one of the leading price points for a tubeless offering) .

There are typically two types of pneumatic tyre on scooters will have:

1) Split rim hub that requires a tube [G15 Commander, G20 ProMax 8.5 Max, G22 ProMax 10 Run!].
2) Solid hub that supports tubeless /hub [G22 ProMax 10, G30 Sviper Pro].
3) Solid hub that requires a tube (this is usually an outcome of poor design where tubeless operation fails).

* Most tubeless tyres can be fitted with a tube, so do not assume if a tyre states "tubeless" on the nameplate/sidewall that it is being used in tubeless application or that tube cannot be fitted. To determine if a tube is required / installed, check the valve stem where it goes into the rim. To determine if the hub is split rim, look for the split hub securing bolts on the side of the hub. There is a set of motor bolts and a set for the rim cover that forms the split rim). You simply remove the rim cover bolts and the hub splits in two for easy access to the tyre and tube. Managing motor wire is often also easier with splits, further making tyre changes easier.

All four badges in the eScootNow G15 Commander series have split rim hubs and use a tube (1).

    • Tubeless (2) is most reliant to punctures as tubes can easily pinch (and develop puncture) if there isn't diligent / frequent tube pressure maintenance (i.e. checking pressures every 4 weeks or 300kms). Generally, tubeless hubs aren't offered in entry level dual motor scooters so scooters in this class require tubes. eScootNow G20 and G30 series have tubeless offerings. Tubeless tyres are actually the "easiest type of tyre to change" for experienced / mechanical skilled owners that have 3 professional tyre lifters and learnt techniques like stretching a relatively small tyre through soapy water to slide it over a solid hub. Tubeless tyres are therefore the easy .
    • Type (3) is occasionally found on some makes/models of entry level scooters. They have a solid hub and but do not support tubeless tyres which makes it difficult to replace tube and/or tyre because you have to stretch the tyre over the hub and manage a tube, which what you want to avoid, unless you enjoy experimentation.
    • Because the 8.5" tyres are small, and the motors are relatively large, and we have a lot of hills, the hubs on dual motor 8.5" tyre scooters heat up (more so than 10" tyres with larger/heavier motors) which accelerates likelihood of having a puncture - especially if the tyre pressure is down. So keep an eye on the pressures and motor temperature. Motor temperature rises when tyres are deflated by a few PSI. The motor hub should be hot to touch by hand however you should be able to continue contact for a few seconds without feeling the absolute need to break contact (~55 degrees max). An battery operated inflator such as Xiaomi Mi Pump makes the task of inflation much more enjoyable, like sun cream - use whatever is easiest to apply.
    • TLDR is that split rims (1) are OK if you aren't one to let the tube's pressure slip from the required 45 PSI to say 35 PSI because it has not been checked for 4 weeks. Inappropriate low pressure puts load on the motor, then when sustaining a 1 hour ride over 15kms with hills generates significant heat, and prematurely fails the tube. That's the most common cause of punctures in 8.5" tubes. Under those conditions the tube gets so soft that it essentially melts.
