When fitted with screws each end, the shaft acts as a pair screw (it is hollow, threaded) without the screws/bolts (for each end of shaft). Stock screws: A2-70 silver stainless socket head screws M8x12mm length with a 1.25mm thick, 16mm outer diameter washer. On occasions the stock screw is measured as 14mm.
Aftermarket 12.9 class black carbon steel screws, both with silver 304 stainless 1mm thick, 14mm outer diameter washer. Screws supplied as either:
Socket head M8x16mm, or

Typically required when original has deformed which would result in vertical "play" in the shaft and a "knocking sound". This sound and feel can be observed when front wheel is lifted off the ground. In these instances, accurate measurement tools such as micrometre or callipers will reveal the shaft diameter has worn to ~11.96mm, which is a <0.4mm reduction.
Consider including an optional bushing if using the factory stock KKE shocks. Often these need be renewed if "play" is observed. This is the self lubricating bearing that sits inside the shaft of the shock as explained on the KKE suspension product page. Press out the original (a suitably sized socket from a socket set with drift is usually suitable). Press in the renewed bearing in same manner. The bush has 12mm inner diameter, 14mm external diameter, 15mm length and in most instances can be tapped in and out with appropriate sized drift.
