160mm Brake Disc Rotor Wave Style [TurboBrake|NAMI]

• The 44mm PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) is adopted on almost all eScooters. Choice of:
  • Generic 2.3mm (110 grams) suits most 11" eScooters, with appearance identical to the inaugural Teverun Fighter 11 Series rotor [Discontinued].
  • TurboBrake 1.9mm (125 grams) our recommended entry-level wave rotor.
  • TurboBrake 2.3mm (158 grams) our recommended performance rotor. This is same but larger version of the TurboBrake 140mm rotor which is factory fitted on current model Dragon Hurricane/Predator/Cyclone. Adopts slotted design for strength and warp resistance.
  • NAMI Electric 2.5mm (166 grams) supplied as NAMI Factory Spare as original for Burn-e and Blast models. Width will accommodate most Zoom, NUTT and Logan callipers
• The 48mm PCD variant is a Generic spare part 2.0mm thickness - this PCD is more common on eBikes, not eScooters but is observed on some Dualtron makes.
• Choose optional Black M5 Button Head Screws as desired. Typically required when the Hex/Allen head has stripped. Higher tensile screws have a more robust head, go easy on torque with the high tensile to ensure they do not strip the thread in the motor

Notes:

1. Our thickest rotor (3mm) is the round Kaabo Wolf Warrior factory spare. It is the most resilient to being bent and to under certain conditions is more resilient to warping than thinner rotors however alignment of callipers is fine.
2. Most eScooter hubs typically adopt 44mm PCD. How to measure PCD:
3. The preformation of the wave style design reduces "jerking" and supports improved cooling effect to reduce overheating compared to thicker round design.
4. Michael Sha at NAMI recommends 6nm torque on rotor bolts, which should not require any excessive strength to tighten.
5. Wave discs are typically used in performance full hydraulic brake systems with demanding cooling requirements.

Wave vs round and thickness: These discs have thickness of 2mm which is pretty much industry standard for wave style. eScootNow recommends wave style discs over thicker round style as wave has better preformation that improved cooling effect to reduce overheating as it allows heat and gasses to escape. The thinner discs have greater surface-area to mass/density ratio, so they tend to hold less heat when not operating and cool quicker. Heat retention associated with thicker or non-wave discs can increase brake temperature increasing likelihood of glazing the pads (lazy brake) and premature failure of calliper (seals) and hydraulics. It is common to see "smoke" or "gas" from callipers on heavy braking in Warriors fitted with factory round disc and Zoom Hydraulic brakes, whereas it is less common on similar brake systems on different makes that have adopted wave style disc (e.g. Teverun Fighter and Dualtron). The thicker disc will take longer to "warm up", however it does offer some additional resilience to being physically damaged (bent), however the thinners may be more subjectable to heat related warping especially if there is not even heat distribution across the circumference of the disc.

The author writes: "The reasoning behind the waves are twofold: Weight is reduced on the outer edges and heat dissipation is assisted by the larger surface area of the waves. Additionally, the irregular shapes cut in the swept area also help with heat dissipation by getting rid of the heated gasses generated during friction between the brake pads and the disc. The round holes in the OEM discs tend to capture the gasses and carry them around as the disc rotates, much like a rider in a basket on a ferris wheel. The irregular holes create turbulence that causes the hot gasses to be scavenged by the neighbouring cooler air as the disc turns."
