TurboBrake HB427-4M 4-Piston Brake Calliper

• TurboBrake HB427-4M 4-Piston Brake Calliper is eSN's high-end motocross class performance brake calliper which is factory stock on flagship Teverun Fighter models.
• Drop-in high-end replacement for most of the common stock callipers on most makes/models of eScooters.
• 4M designation = 4-Piston Motocross (4S = standard). This is a higher class product standard 4-Piston callipers such as HB427-4S and those of Logan, Zoom and NUTT.

• Available in Left or Right orientation. This orientation defines the location of the hydraulic line termination as you look at the outer side of calliper mounted on scooter. For example, a calliper with right orientation, sitting on top of swing arm will suit rear right hand side of scooter & front left hand side. It will also suit front right hand side if located "behind the fork". See notes for further info, as a general guide:
  • NAMI = Left.
  • Kaabo Warrior = Right with exception to the GTR which adopts Left at front.
  • Kaabo Mantis 8/10 = Left.
  • Teverun Fighter = Left.
  • Dragon Hurricane = Right orientation.
  • Dragon GTR (including V2) = Short Right (for front RHS behind fork) and Right Long (for rear RHS on top of swing arm). Factory stock bracket for the cable/mechanical calliper cannot be re-used as length is too short.
• Supplied with Long or Short flexible steel whip hydraulic line (flexi hose), which has slightly larger outer diameter than typical BH59 type.
  • Short, for front is 1.28 meters length (1280mm).
  • Long, for rear is s 2.1 meters length (2100mm).

Lengths derived from that of NAMI Logan 4-Piston (Burn-e) which is the most generous of all common 11" wheel scooters. Teverun adopt 1230mm (50mm shorter) and 2100mm (identical). If needing longer, eSN has joiners (couplers) and flexi hose with factory fitted (crimped) connectors to extend 150mm. Hose terminates on the inside of calliper, on a slightly more favourable angle than that of Logan 4-piston to help clear tyre sidewall (see notes). The inside termination reduces exposure of hose to damage and the factory crimped connectors form a robust connection on both ends. This negates need for olive (bushing), compression nut, cover (hood/boot) on the lever end. As the termination is crimped, clearance to route needs be accommodated as mentioned below in notes (alternatively use existing hose). A pair of M6 x 18mm socket head bolts with washers are included to secure bracket to swing arm.

• Supplied with factory fitted 41.5mm wide All-Metal Rectangular "Ears" 4-Piston Brake Pad (Shimano M02/M03/M04). eScootNow also stocks a Ceramic compound pad. Callipers will support the slightly narrower finned cooling enhanced NUTT YD-03 pads (resin/ceramic) and Rectangular "Logan" 4-Piston Pad (Shimano D02S/D03S) which have no ears and width of 39.5mm. eSN recommends the "Ears" pad over the narrower ones.
• The two red piston caps are presented on the outer side. eScootNow TurboBrake branding is printed on the inside surface (typically not visible when fitted).

Notes:

1. Typically paired with the levers of TurboBrake or the higher end CNC Ball Bearing Edition.
2. This section shows the Left/Right orientation on popular makes/models to help you know your left's from rights. Always check your own build.
   1. NAMI is straight forward, they are all Left orientation.
      Rear is on the left hand side above swing arm, as you look at side of eScooter the line runs to the left, hence Left.
      Front is on the right hand side above swing arm on Burn-E and Klima, and on left hand side behind the "forks" on Blast. Hence Left.

   2. Kaabo Wolf Series has Right orientation with exception for GTR Front which is a Left.
      
      
      The motor housing is larger on GTR. On the rear with HB427-4M it is observed washes (or rotor spacer) needs be fit between the 3mm Kaabo stock rotor and motor hub to allow calliper to clear the motor hub housing.
   3. Dragon Hurricane has Right orientation.
      Rear is on the right hand side above swing arm, hence Right. Front is on the right hand side, behind the "forks" hence right.
      
   4. Dragon Lightning V2: It is observed washers (undefined) are required for front of Dragon Lightning V2.
3. Lateral spacing: When upgrading from standard to moto (motocross) class callipers such as HB427-4M, the calliper housing will typically be larger in dimensions than the one replacing. Washer(s) or rotor spacers may be required to space the calliper housing or hydraulic line from motor hub or tyre. Adjustment techniques include:
   • If the rotor needs be spaced further from the motor hub housing (like Wolf GTR rear) to allow calliper housing to clear the motor hub housing as the calliper cannot be positioned any further from the motor hub without impacting lateral piston alignment:
     • a rotor spacer (gasket, 44mm PCD) can be fitted (recommended treatment). Alternatively, six washers for the M5 button head rotor screws.
   • If a spaced rotor impacts lateral piston alignment or something such as swing arm brake bracket obstructs clearance with the calliper housing, the swing arm (or fork) can be spaced out further using technique:
     • Fitting a spacer washer such as Axil Washer between the motor hub and inside of swing arm (or fork). A compensatory washer can be fitted on the other end of swing arm (pivot shaft) and shock bracket pair screw (if relevant) to retain square assembly. Usually a think (1.5mm) Axil Washer is suitable.
4. Consider adding a TurboBrake Brake Bleed Adaptor: You will likely need one of these for HB427-4M calliper as the ones are typically included in the common eZmtb kits are not suitable (too short). TurboBrake levers also use this adaptor (as does the HB427-4M calliper).
5. Vertical alignment: Brackets are supplied for Industry Standard (IS) mount of 160mm rotors. There are two common IS mount brackets used on eScooters with 140-160mm rotors, each of them are identical identical across all TurboBrake callipers (-H, -4S & -4M).
   • The F-160 R-140 is supplied with HB427-4M short, it is a shorter bracket.
     This size bracket is adopted on 140mm rotor models front and rear on NAMI Klima and Mantis 8/10/King GT and rear of Kaabo Wolf Warrior 11 145mm rotor variants.
     Similar brackets can be sourced separately as 001 from MUQZI.
     The image below shows TurboBrake HB427-4M calliper compared to the Zoom of Kaabo. The Zoom bracket, overlayed on the 2nd image is actually 1mm shorter in height than TurboBrake. If re-using existing Zoom bracket, additional washer(s) are required to clear calliper housing.
     
   • The F-180 R-160 is supplied with HB427-4M Long, it is a taller bracket.
     This size bracket is adopted on NAMI Burn-e, all 160mm Kaabo Wolf Warrior 11/GT Series models (and front of 145mm Warrior 11) and Teverun Fighter 11/Supreme series. Note some Kaabo brackets are observed with a height that is 3mm shorter, which is assumed to suit front of the 145mm Wolf Warrior models - in this instance rather than shaving down the bracket simply uplift to a 160mm rotor.
     Similar brackets can be sourced separately as 002 from MUQZI.
     The image below shows TurboBrake HB427-4M calliper compared to the Zoom of Kaabo. The Zoom bracket, overlayed on the 2nd image is unsuitable for HB427-4M.
     
   • F-203 R-180 is also offered as an alternative for the HB427-4M Right Long.
6. Special purpose brackets are often used if intending to fit a larger rotor or relocate the calliper to be more favourable with clearance. MUQZI has an extensive range of special purpose brackets. Here is a couple of relevance:
   • IS 004 F-203 R-180 shown as blue bracket bottom right as an alternative to F-180 R-160. Used when fitting +20mm larger rotors as shifts the calliper position "away and across" making it an ideal candidate for 160mm -> 180mm rotor uplifts.
   • PM 005 F-203 R-203 shown as blue bracket top right, it is a (PM: Post Mount) stacked with an IS F-160 R-140. The objective here is to shift the unorthodox sized Magura MT5e calliper and banjo bolt away from the tyre sidewall. The IS 007 R-203 is also a candidate. You generally need not do need special purpose brackets for TurboBrake if retaining stock size rotor.
     .
     
     The IS naming convention is industry standard convention, however often a different type of bracket to what the nameplate numbers suggest. For example, the Klima has stock 140mm rotors yet still requires an F-160 R-140 on the front. You cannot just go by the rotor size numbers, but you can usually go by increments (e.g. +20mm larger rotor is a +20mm step up in IS naming convention).
7. Where spacers are required to space the bracket with calliper, ABS Spacers from Grey Eteri Store and HUJI Store make a tidy finish compared to stacking washers. Use M6.2 internal diameter for the M6 bolts, 9mm external diameter. Similar to the M5.2's in the TurboTight NAMI Klima Fender Spacer Kit. Alternatively you could use 6x8 or 6x10 copper sleeve from AN DE LI Hardware Fitting Store or U Officer Store.

9. First image shows the HB427-4M fitted to rear of NAMI Klima with the stock F-160 R-140 bracket and stock 140mm rotor. A slight shave to the swing arm brake mount plate was undertaken to accommodate the calliper body. By way of comparison, image on right (lower) shows NAMI Burn-e with Magura MT5e and aftermarket 160mm (stock size) rotor. Magura callipers typically require quite an orchestrated ensemble of bracketing due to their size. In this instance a PM bracket is stacked on top of the IS Mount (piggy backed). This shifts the placement to accommodate Magura design to clear the tyre. In the Magura photo you can see that one of the pistons is not seated appropriately to align the pad to the rotor (it is too high). Ideally that bracket should be shaved down and/or a more appropriate bracket(s) and washers assembled. Magura are troublesome as they are further removed in placement than typical stock eScooter callipers

11. Zoom 2-piston to HB427-4M uplift on Teverun Fighter 11 series. The HB427-4M is stock on current Fighter Supreme Ultra and 7260R models. Earlier 7260R models had the HB427-4S calliper.
    
    
12. Image below shows the hydraulic line (hose) supplied with TurboBrake callipers which is a steel whip flexi-hose shown with silver connector on the right. It has factory crimped TEKTRO style fitting which forms a resilient connection. Allow for the clearance of this when routing through eScooter deck/stem etc. The connector negates need for traditional insert (needle/barb), olive and compression nut, but you can use that traditional hose if you wish (ideally TEKTRO barb, or BH59 barb, both with BH59 olive). The type on left is a TEKTRO barb (with BH59 olive) as featured on TurboBrake 2-Piston HB427-H and standard 4-Piston HB427-4S callipers. Both adopt the TEKTRO standard as noted by presence of the o'ring to act as washer/gasket - ensure o'ring is present for proper seal on TEKTRO. Both adopt the common thread of M8 (0.75 pitch) adopted by most eScooter brake levers, allowing connectivity to existing levers such as Zoom, Logan and NUTT levers and callipers that adopt BH59 olive such as Logan. Refer to the TurboBrake Reference page for further information about hose and insert types such as Shimano BH59, BH90 and TEKTRO.
    
    
13. Image showing the F-160 R-140 and taller F-180 R-160 brackets on Kaabo/Zoom "HB-875E" contrasted with those on TurboBrake. The observed height in millimeters is noted, being the distance from centre of threaded hole in the bracket that connects to the scooter to the top of bracket where the calliper sits. Sometimes brackets are labelled with a nameplate on the underside. Brackets that slightly deviate from the standard (such as the washer-free 22mm Kaabo F-180 R-160 +3mm) are usually not nameplated.
    • Calliper housing on HB427-4M with F-160 R-140 runs calliper housing close to the bracket - the TurboBrake bracket is approx 1m higher on the far side to assist clearance and negate need for washers. Additional washer(s) are required if re-using existing Kaabo F-160 R-140 brackets. F-160 R-140 brackets locate callipers close to the brake bracket on the swing arm (ref NAMI Klima adjustment above).
    • The "22/22mm" Kaabo/Zoom variant of F-180 R-160 is a "no washer" version, in that the height is 3mm taller (22/22mm vs the usual 19/19mm) negating need for spacer washers. The Kaabo/Zoom F-180 R-160 are not suitable for use on HB427-4M due to the contour (as mentioned above, vertical alignment) and rotating 180 degrees to clear will not position the pads appropriately.
